What is more British than a man doing\u00a0DIY? Whether you are a jack of all trades around your house,\u00a0or the master of none, Do It Yourself has increasingly\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0become the trademark of a true gent! With hammer and spirit level in hand, he will never feel more powerful than when he is marking the wall with a straight line ready to put up some shelves, digging a hole in the garden\u00a0or in the shed sawing\u2026well\u2026anything really.<\/p>\n

Speaking of quintessentially English things, alongside Punch and Judy, Pimms\u00a0and Morris Dancing,\u00a0St\u00a0Georges\u2019\u00a0day is nearly upon us\u00a0once\u00a0again.\u00a0\u00a0The\u00a0patron saint\u00a0of England is to be celebrated with flags and beer\u00a0in pubs (and the odd\u00a0church minus the beer)\u00a0across the country on 23rd April despite\u00a0this particular chap\u00a0not having\u00a0any real historical connection to the country. \u00a0But as any good man does,\u00a0Saint George kept drilling away at us, insisting\u00a0he\u00a0could<\/em>\u00a0be our country\u2019s protector despite no previous experience, training\u00a0or proof to back up his claims,\u00a0until we declared him our patron Saint. \u00a0(Note: previous sentence may\u00a0not necessarily,\u00a0strictly be\u00a0historically correct!)<\/p>\n

But despite Saint George never really doing much for us since his attachment to our country, (much like that wonky shelf since it\u2019s attachment to your wall last year during a DIY weekender),\u00a0he at least\u00a0provided a\u00a0good lesson in persistence. \u00a0So\u00a0why not\u00a0follow in his footsteps and continue to\u00a0insist\u00a0that you\u00a0CAN rewire\u00a0the house, install the power shower and add in new sockets despite plenty of proof to the contrary,\u00a0until you\u00a0have absolutely proved beyond reason\u00a0that you\u00a0can\u2019t and the missus\u00a0passes you\u00a0the phone to call in the pro\u2019s. (Note: do not actually\u00a0try any of these\u00a0things at home unless qualified!)<\/p>\n

So instead of spending your evenings battling with all your electrical DIY mistakes, spend next Wednesday night (and\u00a0the up and coming sunny\u00a0bank holiday weekends)\u00a0down the pub celebrating\u00a0our great patron saint with a cold beer while one\u00a0of the 5 star\u00a0team from Bert\u2019s Electrics sorts\u00a0out your wiring, fuse box, security alarm, smoke alarm or whatever else you have\u00a0advisedly\u00a0attempted\u00a0to install\/fix yourself.<\/p>\n

You never know, our apprentice George might even be round\u00a0to raise a toast to his namesake with you!<\/p>\n
