Why A Safety Check Is So Important.

Our houses are completely full of electricity, right? This is why electricity is now the major cause of accidental fires in UK homes. We don’t seem to realise how dangerous our wires and appliances can be.

Statistics show that electricity causes over 20,000 fires a year, which is more than half of all accidental fires in houses. Every year, around 350,000 people are injured due to an electrical accident in their homes.

And that is why it is so important to get safety checks regularly, even when you can’t see an issue, electricians may be able to find a life threatening problem with your wires.

Now you shouldn’t just pick the first person you see, picking the right person is crucial! You need someone who has knowledge, skills, experience and is fully qualified in order to avoid putting themselves and you in any danger.

Here is a list of my qualifications, so you know you can trust my work and feel safe in your home:

  • I got my GCSE Maths and English a few years ago. Then I got…
  • City & Guilds Pt 1, Pt 2 & ‘C course’ in Electrical Installations
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Inspection, Testing & Certificates
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate of Competence for Inspection & Testing
  • BTEC ONC Engineering
  • BTEC HNC Engineering
  • 17th Edition Regulations BS7671

Also, NAPIT tests and assesses my work every year to check that I’m still a competent sparky. They also guarantee my work so if there are ever any disputes about my work, you can go straight to them. NAPIT gives me and my customers or clients peace of mind.

Please check when you last got a safety check and get in touch as soon as possible if you haven’t yet had one!

A Re-Awakening of the Home This Easter

A Re-Awakening of the Home This Easter

It’s coming to that time of year when spring is in the air…well sort of.  The blossoms are on the tree’s at least and we have had the odd reminder of what the sun looks and feels like after the devastation of the heavy duty rains back in February.  For many of us, the floods of 2014  ravaged homes and lives for a long time to come, but spring offers a fresh hope to turn around a sorry situation and get something wonderful to grow out of the ruins.

With Spring comes Easter, and aside from the chocolate binges we all seem to succumbe too every year around April, Easter is the perfect time to think about resurrecting your home from the ashes of winter.  It’s time to dust off your tools, get down your local hardware store for some paint to brighten up the hallway and stock up bin liners to empty the unused, the unwanted and the forgotten items of your life into.

The long bank holidays provide the perfect opportunity to smarten up your home and while you are at it, consider sorting out a few of your fixtures and fittings!  Update your tired looking ceiling lights, install a few smart garden lights so you can enjoy the summer evenings as the nights draw out and warm up, or even get some modern indoor display lighting fitted to give your home a whole new look.

They say the kitchen is the heart of any home, so if you are feeling really adventurous this holiday, why not treat yourself to a new cooker and oven?  With it freshly and professionally installed you  can get the whole family round to enjoy Easter cakes cooked by your own fair hands!  What a great way to celebrate this time of year.

But aside from the fun aspects of getting your home spick-and-span for the year ahead, the safety elements should not be ignored at the expense of the aesthetics.  Whether your home needs rewiring, a fuse box replacement, a fault found and sorted out or some safety testing, then now is the perfect time to get it sorted.  Even if you are a complete electrical novice, it takes no effort on your part to ensure your, or your family’s, safety with a quick no nonsense, no obligation check of the home by the pro’s.  A good rule of thumb? If your system keeps shorting or electrical items blow regularly then chances are something needs looking at!

And with all these little niggley things done and dusted, your home will be safe and sound and looking great – ready, not just for the Easter weekend, but for the whole year ahead meaning you can sit back with a clear conscience and a fresh outlook!

Team bert are wishing you a very happy Easter weather it’s soaking up the sun (fingers crossed) eating chocolate or spending time with the family.
Stay safe and have a good one!
Let the long weekend begin!
